My Son Jacob is Going on a Mission to Japan

I have been in a bit of a funk for the past few days. We took our only son to the MTC on Wed. Jacob is serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for the next two years. He is going to be in Japan and I won't be able to see him until May 2011! I am grateful we spent an amazing week together before he went. He is a dedicated, wise, mature, and spiritual person. I really look up to him and know he will be a great missionary.

He will be at the Mission Training Center until July to learn the Japanese language.

I didn't know it was going to be so hard to send him off. He wanted to go, he planned for it for years, we had 4 months to get him packed, get his passport/Visa etc. but when it was time to say goodbye it was sooo hard. I have been thinking about him like crazy and it has only been 4 days! I know he will be blessed and we are so proud of him for putting his life on hold to serve the Lord.
I am feeling lots of compassion for the soldier's families who send off their loved ones. I can't imagine being a father or mother getting deployed to Iraq for a year. What a heartbreaker! I am very grateful we have volunteers that put their lives on the line to fight for our freedoms!

Congratulations!!!

We have a couple in our ward coming home in July who are mission presidents in Japan.

Jacob "will" be blessed as well as your family.

I sent 5 sons on missions. Each time it was hard, but soo worth it.

I served a mission in North Carolina and it was so worth it. I know your son is doing the right thing. He will have his struggles, but the Lord will bless him for his efforts, and yours. Good Luck to all of you.
