"Way to Be!"

This is the cabinet next to my refrigerator. When kids are filling up their water glasses this is what they get to look at. The Be's are taken from the book "Way to Be! Nine Ways to Be happy and Make Something of Your Life" by Gordon B. Hinckley.

A Mother's Day Tip

My husband used to be a terrible gift giver. The night before a holiday, he would run up to the corner drugstore. He did this because he had procrastinated, and it was the only place open at 11:00PM. It was a pretty steady practice for him. He just wasn't used to gift buying, because like most women I handled every gift that any person in our family was required to buy.
One of the first gifts I received was a taco holder. I am probably the only person who has gotten such a gift. I was newly married and hadn't learned the art of accepting gifts, sooo...I basically gave him the lecture of a lifetime. I told him that I don't make tacos, I don't eat tacos and if I ever decided to make tacos, I certainly wouldn't need a holder for them. I used the taco holder for laughs at parties and to one up the other wives when talking about the stupid gifts they had received. Months later I even had a hard time selling it at a garage sale for 25 cents. This made the story even juicer.
I never really liked any of my Wallgreen gifts and I told him so each and every time. I finally told him that I didn't need any more gifts. I made a deal with him that I would just buy my own. This was actually a great plan because he was happy that he didn't have the pressure of pleasing a perfectionist wife. I was happy because I knew that I would get the gift that I wanted. I quit fantasizing; dreaming of him picking out the perfect sentimental present. I quit having expectations. I wasn't sad or mad anymore. I thought we had a nice arrangement. But because of this I haven't gotten very many gifts.

Many years later my husband and I were in a fancy boutique killing some time (not something we normally do) and I saw this purse. I went crazy over it. I told Kyle that this was the most beautiful "me" purse I had ever seen. If it didn't cost $300.00, I would buy it in a second. He looked at me and said, "I'm going to buy you the purse." I said that it would be ridiculous to buy such an expensive purse. I tried to talk him out of it, but he bought it anyway.
I couldn't believe it! It was the sweetest thing ever! He was so happy and it made me so happy. I couldn't quit crying because it was such a caring gesture.
Here is a picture of the purse. I love it! I love the color, style, fabric, broach, everything! It is a Glenda Gies. I get 2 or 3 compliments on it a day. Everywhere I go people love it. Whenever I am with him he sees everyone raving about it. This reinforces what a hero he was to buy this beautiful gift. (Guys love to be a hero.)
He was so excited about the great thing he did and how much I appreciated it that he got on ebay and started looking at Glenda Gies purses and started buying me more and more and more.
These are all my purses to date. I try to get him to stop but they keep showing up in the mail.

Here is the tip and what I learned. Men like to buy their wives gifts. Some of them just don't know what to buy. When they do something right, acknowledge it, and like me you might get more and more and more. If you are like the old me, making fun, unappreciative, guess what you get? Nothing! Make sure and let your guy know how great he is in spite of what he gets you for Mother's Day, and appreciate the thought as well as the taco holder. I wonder what would have happened if I started crying over the taco holder?
Oh know........ I would probably have a whole house full by now:)

Thanks for Making my Day!!

OK, I got home yesterday and found the most beautifully wrapped gift on my doorstep. It was white shiny paper tied with pink gingham ribbon. I was confused because it was not a holiday. I couldn't understand who would be leaving me a gift. I opened the card and it said this. "I was just thinking about you. Now you will be able to record all of your spiritual and inspirational thoughts. Love your friend. And no signature! Can you believe there are such nice people in the world? What a nice thing. I love the surprise and the unexpected part, but I also think it is soo sweet that someone would go to all the trouble of shopping for me and thinking about what I would like, picking out a pink leather journal and wrapping it so cute. I am blown away. The card was even adorable. It had a cherry with a crystal on it. If you are the one who bought me this beautiful gift. Thank You So Much!!!!!!!

This made me realized that I need to do more anonymous giving. It is such a happy thing to do. Gifts and notes make the giver feel good, and the receiver. How great is that? Thanks friend for making me feel so loved.

Wendy Soderman is an Amazing Crusader

I heard Wendy Soderman tell her story on the Bob Proctor Cruise last year. Her story helps people know that they can do anything, if they have enough passion.
Wendy faces her challenges head on and turns them into gifts for the world. If you are in the education profession in anyway, you have to read about the school she has created. I hope someday every child in the world has a chance to get an education this way. Her school is positive and beautiful, not only that, her students learn faster and gain a total education, as well as, self esteem.
Her schools blow public school education out of the water in every way, including test scores, and she is a hero in her community.
She got started when she couldn't find a preschool that would take her wheelchair bound son. Instead of giving up she started her own. She loved her school so much that when her son began to out grow the preschool she started an elementary school. She has a preschool, Ideal Elementary School and Dream Middle School.

Check out the pictures of her school. I wish an artist could come and paint every child's school this way.

My Family Tree

In my home growning up, on the wall was a family tree that had pictures of my ancestors on it. It was always interesting to look at these people, and see where some of my family traits came from. I always wanted a picture family tree of my own.
It turned out to be relatively easy to make using a scanner. The hard part of course was collecting the photos. I had to travel the country for some of these pictures. One is from a 99 year old women in a nursing home that I made a photo copy of her family picture. One is a picture of a photo that was hanging on someone's wall. I had to get creative. One of the real bonuses for me was when my husbands great aunt said we could have her originals. What a treasure! The family tree has yet to be framed because I am waiting to get one more picture that I was told is in a family history book.

Cinnamon Apple Snacks

You are going to be amazed at how simple, how healthy, and how yummy these are. It tastes like apple pie. YUM!
Cut Fuji apples (these are best, don't do granny smith) into pieces. Put apples in a ziplock bag and sprinkle with cinnamon. Shake till each piece is coated. These will save perfectly preserved for a week in the refrigerator, so make enough to last all week. (Cinnamon is a natural preservative.)
It is the perfect snack. One medium Fuji apple has 80 calories, 5 grams fiber and 22gram carb. Cinnamon lowers LDL cholesterol and regulates blood sugar. I googled cinnamon and was amazed at how good it is for you.
Thanks for this recipe Elfie!

Find Your Top Character Strengths

When I was in coaching school we learned about this free tool. It is a questionnaire that you take online. If I remember right, it takes 30 or 40 minutes. After you finish the quiz you can print out your strengths in order and it explains a little about each one. I think self help quizzes are fun, especially when the answer is how great you are:) It seems like all we think about is our problems and where we need to improve. This tool helps you see just how wonderful you really are. The test helps by showing you your unique strengths.

In life it is best to concentrate on things that we do well. Whatever we pay attention to increases. Why not pay a little attention to your best character traits?
It is called the VIA Signature Strengths Questionnaire. If you would like to take it go to this website:

www.authentichappiness.com

After the page is opened click VIA Signature Strengths Questionnaire and a login box will appear. You will have to give them an email address and get a password. ( I took this test a year ago and haven't received any emails from them. ) It is given from the Positive Psychology Center at the University of Pennsylvania.

Orange Juice

I have several orange trees in my yard. This is how I save my juice. I squeeze the oranges, and strain most of the pulp and seeds. I fill up canning jars leave at least 3/4 of an inch from the top. If you leave less than that you get a lot of breakage and orange syrupy stuff oozing out the top. It makes a huge mess. I fill up 2 freezers full each March and it lasts me all year long.

I just finished with my first freezer (64 quarts).
When ready to use, screw off the lid and microwave for 3 minutes. Chunk it up with a fork and pour it into the blender. I either serve it as orange juice slush or add milk, vanilla, fruit or yogurt and make smoothies.

Positive Attitude

One of the challenges to staying in a positive state is being around negative people. The individual who has the strongest emotional level will tend to pull the other person into his or her own emotional state, unless that other person makes a choice not to be impacted by it and strongly resists.
Peggy McColl

Do you have people in your life that like to sing this song?

The Perfect Homemakers, "The Mollies"

I have no idea what the words to this song mean, but it is very cute. On youtube someone commented that it is addicting.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we all could be this happy and peaceful while baking.

I don't like the terms "housewife" and "homemaker." I prefer to be called "Domestic Goddess." Roseanne

What is Coaching?

The coaching method I am trained in is from Alfred Alders Positive Psychology through Adler School of Professional Coaching. The coaching that I do is strength based. This means that we identify your strengths and build on them instead of working on your weaknesses. It is very effective, enjoyable, and a person can get faster and better results than going it alone.
Coaching is not counseling. Coaching looks to the future while counseling looks to the past. We find your values, strengths, purpose and passions. The coach is beside you as an equal partner, where as a counselor is placed higher as a person of authority with the answers.
Will Craig a mentor coach said this about coaching, “Personal coaching (or Life Coaching) might be most easily described as customized self help books and tapes, brought to life.
Coaching is the equivalent of attending a motivational seminar where the speaker only talks about you and how to make the most of your gifts and talents. Coaching creates an environment where you stay positive and charged up--not for a day or two--but week after week.”
I have read human development and self help books all my life and have listened to more than 1000 hours of seminars on these subjects. My husband of 26 years and I have 5 children and we have owned over 20 businesses. I bring all of these experiences and knowledge to my coaching. My newest business is Time to Blossom seminars, coaching and retreats.
If you are ready for a change, more balance, passion, or need help getting unstuck. Please email me for further details. carlajorgensen@gmail

My Dream Board

A Life Map, Dream board or Vision board helps you discover what you want for yourself and your life.

"Our soul speaks to us in images. Our heads speak to us in thoughts... It's hard to ignore when it's staring you right in the face. It's as if you're literally creating your life as a work of art."
— Lifestyle Makeover expert Cheryl Richardson

Making a Vision board is like setting goals with pictures. It is very powerful.
First tear out images, words or phrases in magazines. Make sure that they speak to you and evoke feelings.
Second arrange these on a poster board until it feels right.
Then if there is something missing, words or pictures find them on the internet and print them off.
Finally paste the images down.

You can take a picture of your board and carry it with you or put it on your computer as a screen saver. The more you look at it the faster your goals will be attained. It's magic!

Husband says pink walls have to go!

I had plain pink walls with a plain table before this photo was taken. After 7 years my husband said enough! He asked me to get rid of the pink paint. I happily agreed to paint the walls a bluegreen if I could accessorize in pink. So this was the compromise. I think I did good:) A girly girl has to have her pink!
I saw something in a magazine that looked similar to this and loved it.I had a handyman add the molding and shelf around my table and then strung pink gingham fabric through the shelf brackets. I already had the silhouettes of my family, (I got them at Disneyland) but hadn't quite figured out what to do with them. I think they look cute mixed in with the china. The antique doily and the lazy susan finish off the look. It makes me happy whenever I go in the kitchen:)

French Hot Chocolate

This is the most amazing hot chocolate recipe! You can store it in your refrigerator for up to a week. It's so fun scooping the mousse like fluff into hot milk. Yum!

3 (1-ounce) squares Baker's semi-sweet chocolate
1/2 cup water
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup sugar

Cook chocolate and water over low heat until smooth and thick, stirring constantly. Add salt and sugar; cook for 5 more minutes. Cool completely.

1 cup heavy cream, whipped
1 teaspoon vanilla

Whip heavy cream and add vanilla. Fold in chocolate mixture. Store in refrigerator. To serve, add a heaping tablespoon (or two) to a cup of hot milk. Stir and enjoy!

SNOW ICE CREAM

I was staying in Park City with some friends. We made this hot chocolate, which was fun and yummy. We also made snow ice cream. The recipe for the ice cream is snow and eagle brand sweetened condensed milk. It was INCREDIBLE!!!!! We actually ended up topping our snow ice cream with the hot chocolate whipped cream. It was heaven!!! It was the night before I was going home or I would have made this everyday. It was THAT GOOD.

Bob Proctor from "The Secret"

I went on a cruise with Bob Proctor to the Mexican Riviera. The entire ship was filled with speakers, coaches, authors etc. I went to classes most of the day for a week. I was in heaven!!! I met so many like minded people. The ship was full of positive energy.
I own nearly everything Bob has published. He has a great message and he makes a lot of sense.
Here is a youtube video of him teaching how to shift your paradigm.

To quote Coco Chanel a famous fashion designer and how she knew a first impression mattered, "I don't understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little - if only out of politeness. The Best Cupcakes in the World!

My daughter was watching the Martha Stewart show and watched Billy, of Billy's Bakery in New York City make these cupcakes. This is his famous recipe. My daughter has made these as wedding favors, for showers, corporate parties, as well as birthdays. This picture is of the lemon cupcakes with lemon cream cheese frosting.

BILLY’S VANILLA, VANILLA CUPCAKES

Makes about 30 cupcakes.

1 ¾ c. cake flour, not self-rising
1 ¼ c. unbleached, all purpose flour
2 c. sugar
1 T. baking powder
¾ tsp. salt
1 c. (2 sticks) unsalted butter, cut into 1-inch cubes
4 large eggs
1 c. whole milk
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 325°. Line cupcake pans with paper liners; set aside. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with paddle attachment, combine flours, sugar, baking powder, and salt; mix on low speed until combined. Add butter, mixing until just coated with flour.
In a large glass measuring cup, whisk together eggs, milk and vanilla. With mixer on medium speed, add wet ingredients in 2 parts, scraping down sides of bowl before each addition; beat until ingredients are incorporated but do not overbeat.
Divide batter evenly among liners, filling about two-thirds fulls. Bake, rotating pan halfway through, until a cake tester inserted in the center comes out clean, 17 to 20 minutes.
Transfer to wire rack to cool completely. Repeat process with remaining batter. Once cupcakes have cooled, use a small offset spatula to frost tops of each cupcake. Decorate with sprinkles if desired. Serve at room temperature.

I love cupcakes!

BILLY’S VANILLA BUTTERCREAM

1 c. (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
6 to 8 c. confectioners’ sugar
½ c. milk
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract

In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream butter until smooth and creamy, 2 to 3 minutes. With mixer on low speed, add 6 cups sugar, milk and vanilla; mix until light and fluffy. If necessary, gradually add remaining 2 c. sugar to reach desired consistency.
We received these fancy cupcakes from our neighors for Christmas.  So pretty!

Cute girl food

This was served to me in a really cute pink restaurant in Fort worth Texas. It was so cute I had to take a picture. It is fruit salad with a pink fruit dip, soup, muffin and 3 finger sandwiches, cucumber cream cheese, chicken salad and pimento cheese.

Vegetables are important to any diet. I
recommend carrot cake, zucchini bread, and
pumpkin pie. --Garfield

Scrapbooked Recipe Book

When I went to visit my friend Lisa I noticed (3) huge 3 ring binders full of recipes. Each page was a scrapbooked masterpiece. I knew her recipes were great so I ended up taking digital pictures of some of her recipes. This is just one example.

How Do You Make Decisions?

Values and Purpose
Intuition
Logic and information
Expert Advice
Feelings and Emotion
Fate and Chance
Divine Guidance
Past Experiences

Evaluate how you normally make decisions. Now ask yourself which one you never use to make a choice. What if you had a decision to make and you stepped into each one of these and tried it on for size. There might be some benefits.
When I did this exercise in coaching school, I generally made decisions out of Divine Guidance and Logic and Information. After exploring myself more and learning and growing as a person, I went back a year later and did the exercise again and was surprised that my decision making process expanded into more areas, I hadn't been using.
The exercise was this. They made a big wheel on the floor out of tape. The wheel was divided into categories. Each piece of the pie was labeled one of these. We were to walk around the wheel and stand in each section and see what it felt like to make a decision each way. After we had gone around the circle, each person had to pick the one they used the most and tell why. Then we had to go stand in the piece of pie that we used the least and tell why. What was interesting about this was that you heard each person's perspective. They each made a lot of sense. I could see the benefits of using different methods. Sometimes we get into our box and don't want to do things a different way. I realized that the other perspectives were valid and useful. Now when making a decision, I have so many more ways of looking at things and deciding.

Pig Candy

Arrange bacon on a broiler pan. (My daughter made these on cooling racks on a cookie sheet)
Sprinkle bacon with brown sugar liberally. (Cinnamon or nutmeg can be added)
Cook for 20 min. at 350
Turn bacon, apply more brown sugar, and cook for another 20 min.

If you have never tried this, you have really been missing out. It is sooo good!!!!!!! It is a sweet, fattening, smoke flavored delight. If you don't have lots of people around to help you eat these, DO NOT try this recipe. You might end up eating way too many.

Cook until they are flat and look crispy, not floppy.
IF you have any leftovers the bacon would taste great cut up in a salad although I have never had that opportunity.

This has saved me 100's of hours

For years I was the only one in my household that could iron. Yes, I tried to teach my husband but he didn't give it much effort. Why should he when I was so good at it?:)
About 10 years ago I saw this professional steamer at Costco. It was expensive but I thought it was worth a try. It turned out to be one of the best investments in myself and my time that I have ever made!
Why is it that when men have a job to do they go out and buy the best tools for the job and women seem to scrape buy with cheap irons and vacumes and use them many times a week for decades?
My children, starting at 5, could steam their own clothes. My husband has no trouble either. Our family uses it about 98 percent of the time. I rarely ever get out the ironing board. Clothing stores use these because what would normally take 10 minutes to iron, takes 1 or 2 min. to steam.

Remembering Successes

They say that when you ask someone what they are good at you get blank stares, but when you ask people to list their faults they start listing them page after page.
How sad is that! We should be able to share our victories as well as share our tragedy’s.
How about writing some of the good stuff in your journal. Here are some ideas.

A time in your life when you were at your best.
When you landed a job or got a promotion.
When you succeeded at a hobby, sport or event.
When you had one of your dreams come true.
Something you worked hard for.
Something you overcame.
Something you are proud of.
Something you accomplished.

Dancing Lessons

I have been talking about taking dancing lessons for years. I kept thinking my husband and I could do them together. Well, it was never one of his goals. He doesn't like to dance. I thought I can either mope around because no one will take lessons with me or I can do it by myself. So last week I took action. I was frankly sick of talking and thinking about it. I drove myself down to Fred Astaire dance Studio and signed up for 5 classes. I went 2 times last week and it was really fun. I danced about 40 min. each time. It was physically and mentally stimulating. I came home and danced with my 11 and 12 year old girls. We had a ball. I am going to keep taking lessons. When I get better I hope I can teach my husband and girls.
This wasn’t a huge goal. It was just one of those things I thought would be fun to try. Is there anything you have been talking about doing? Are you waiting on others to do it? Do it on your own. Your enthusiasm might be contagious.

Here is my uncle and I dancing at my aunt's 50th wedding anniversary. See the lessons have already paid off!

My Mission Statement

Mission Statements evolve over time. What is nice about writing one is putting it up on your bathroom mirror and reading it each day. When you say these positive things and know where you are going, your day starts out better with clearer direction.

My Mission Statement
I savor each moment of my life as a positive, grateful, happy, wife, mother, homemaker and successful business woman and coach who delegates, serves and helps others rise to greatness.
I am a strong, spiritual, healthy, organized and an energetic whole person who is self disciplined, a goal getter, who has deep, meaningful and fun relationships with family, friends and colleagues.

John Gray's Morning Drink

I heard John Gray speak last year. He is the guy that wrote the Mars and Venus books. He is not only right on when he talks about relationships. He is just as knowledgeable about health. He drinks this every morning. He really sold me on the benefits of this drink.
Drink it right when you wake up in the morning. The honey feeds your brain, the lemon cleanses your liver and the cell food oxygenates your brain. Wait 20 minutes to eat and you won't be as hungry. This isn't a weight loss strategy it is just a side effect.

To mix activated water, use the following quantities:
8 oz (237 ml) water
1 oz (30 ml) aloe Vera juice
1 tsp (5 ml) honey
juice of ½ lemon
Trace Minerals (ionic plant sourced), in the amount recommended by the manufacturer
Shake the mixture five to ten times in a bottle or jar before drinking. Shaking activates the potency of ionic trace minerals.
Make sure the minerals you use are ionic trace minerals from a plant source. One is a product named "Cell Food," but there are numerous others. The key is to be sure it is plant sourced. Each ionic trace mineral product has its own suggested amount for daily use. Some say eight drops of a liquid while others indicate two tablespoons, etc. Simply follow the manufacturer's suggested daily portion size and include that in your morning activated water and breakfast shake.

Start with only a couple of drops of cellfood a day for awhile or you may get a headache.

I made this for a friend of mine. He was very over weight and by his own admission said that he ate the worst food imaginable. He ended up getting a really bad headache from the cell food.
It is called a health crisis? It has detoxing effects. It dumps toxins that are stored in your organs back into your blood stream to get rid of them. It is healthy for you to do cleanses but if you are unhealthy either don’t use the drops or start out very slowly and only add one drop and then 2, until you build up to 8 drops.
